Mark Hannaford

Mark is a founder and Managing Director of Across the Divide www.acrossthedivide.com and Expedition Medicine www.expeditionmedicine.co.uk. He has been involved with expeditions and charity ventures for over 21 years and helped to raise over $70 million and has also led expeditions to all of the worlds continents. He has been elected a fellow of both the Royal Geographical Society and the Royal Society of Arts and is a widely published photographer.
Mark has traveled widely even as a child, having been brought up on the island of Antigua in the West Indies then moving onto the Middle East and Saudi Arabia. Mark studied Geography before he set off and joined Raleigh International. He was involved initially as an adventurer then joined the team full-time.
In Australia he ran the logistics for a geological company. Returning to the UK, he entered a Special Forces Regiment with the TA. Mark was with the TA for just under three years many of the skills he learnt with the TA were easily transferable to the work he now does at Across the Divide; leadership, expedition skills, medical safety back-up, night navigation, practical skills and casualty management in remote areas. He is a senior instructor on the Expedition and Polar Medicine Courses and a photographer for the John Warburton Lee Photographic Library. Mark joins us from the UK.
