Among Jon Turk's list of firsts is his 3,000 mile kayak expedition from Japan to Alaska following a 10,000 year old aboriginal migration route. Paddler Magazine called this voyage: "One of the 10 All-Time Greatest Sea Kayak Expeditions." His recent book, In the Wake of the Jomon chronicles the journey and looks back at Stone Age mariners who completed the passage during the Ice Age. Jon He has kayaked around Cape Horn, was part of the first rock climbing party to make big wall ascents in Sam Ford Fiord, Baffin Island, did the first ascent of Lamo-she Peak (6070 meters), Sichuan Province, China, an unsupported crossing of the western Gobi of Mongolia on a mountain bike, and several first descents by ski in the Tien Shan and Pamir Alai ranges of Kyrgyzia, volcanoes of Kamchatka, and Appolobamba of Bolivia. Jon has been awarded three Polartec and four Gore-tex grants for outstanding adventures. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry and proceeded to write environmental and earth science textbooks. However he realized he would "ooze into insanity" if he spent his life in a lab and decided to chuck the lab coat. Jon joins us from the U.S.
