Over the years I have tested, loved, and been displeased with many systems of inner layers, their performance, various fabrics, using new technologies for increased breathability, wicking properties, and speed in drying from dozens of manufacturers. Of this massive list of used and abused inner layers, Kuhl's rediculously soft Kore Crew in Technikore fabric ranks at the top of my list with Patagonias's mid-weight capilene crew. While Kuhl's is far softer and more comfortable, the one property Patagonia's crew has over these is fewer fabric panels and thus less stitching. This factor weighs in when wearing the Kore Crew ice climbing under an expedition-weight top. The arm movements could be improved for this particular sport anyway. That said, every product has its intended usage. When acting as the sole inner layer to a shell, down jacket, soft shell, over an inner silk weight layer, or on its own, the Kuhl Kore Crew is at its best.

For temperature regulation, gaining heat, breathability, and wiking capacity, the Technikore fabric performed equally well on all counts. I was comfortable gaining heat while ice climbing, felt dry and comfortable as I cooled off belaying in the cold, and felt comfortable and dry throughout the day.

Another nice feature about this crew is the styling, you can wear it as a top and it doesn't scream base layer.
