Black Diamond Iris Womens Climbing Harness
I tested the Black Diamond Iris climbing harness for a month. Beside the attention to detail you expect from all Black Diamond gear, I can't say that wearing this women-specific climbing harness felt more comfortable than my usual unisex climbing harness, but maybe that's because I'm used to a non-women specific harness. Or maybe not.
This harness has 3D-molded
foam padding the waist and thigh belts which I found not to add comfort, and the added rigidity was more constricting that I like in a comfortable, flexible harness that I will be wearing all day. I wonder if I tried something like Black Diamon'd alpine bod if I'd like that better - it being non-padded. Hopefully they will let me try it during the spring/summer alpine season.
But the term 'freedom of movement' is not what I would say is this climbing harness's strong point, but rather its one weak point. That said, every climber is different and every climber has their preferences. This may be just what another female climber is looking for so in that light, it would be great.
I don't like the fitted thigh loops, they have elastic that allows the loops to be flexible in size but not if I use it for winter climbing then summer. I like a fully-adjustable thigh loop to comfortably fit over my expedition liners and shells as well as tighten up for summer rock climbing mayhem. If you are after a harness to climb with at the gym or something super padded for big walls, this could be gold.
