We used the lightning snow shoes for a 4 hour approach up hill to go ice climbing in Bear creek Ouray, Colorado. We encountered all kinds of snow conditions and they handled every situation really good. Whether it be crossing steep avalanche chutes with hard packed snow or just simply flat deep snow, these snow shoes were awesome.
The buckles are really easy to clip on and off which is good cause if the snow keeps changing conditions , you can easily put them on when needed and take them off as well. I remember at one point we had to cross a steep hard packed avalanche chute and had no troubles at all, they have good aluminum teeth to keep you stabilized in hard snow.
They’re extremely light weight which is essential in the back country, and a full 15% lighter than competitors. When climbing steeper grades the heel bails lift up to eliminate stress on the calves. Everything that it’s made of is waterproof and won’t freeze and turn heavy. I can't think of anything bad to say about these snow shoes.
